The other problem would be that dark sarcastic humour is often perceived to be offensive and insulting. The jokes about females have a underlying streak of misogyny.
The jokes about dark skinned women or Jamaicans may be perceived as racist. It really depends on the subjective reading experience of each individual reader. Aside from the sharp edged pen the author has, I think he didn't do himself any favours by dipping into so many pools at once. Too many ideas sprouting off into different directions made the story or stories seem disjointed and disconnected. It would have been far better to concentrate on one or two and then show consistency and duration in the plot.
Overall I think the author has a good sense of humour, but is in danger of going too far in an attempt to keep the jokes flowing. As a last note I want to mention one of the phrases that the author used, which I know will annoy the heck out of many women, but might just amuse some of the more black-hearted amongst us.
Referring to menstruation as 'special lady days' made me think back to my days as a teen when us girls used similar witty phrases to describe them. The book deserves three stars for being so outlandishly wrong, however I am willing to speculate that the author just has a really cynical, jaded and black sense of humour.

View 1 comment. This was a strange book that was written in a very crude, uncomplicated and loose style featuring two unique characters who were almost instantly proven to be unlikeable within just a few pages. The plot in this particular book ,such as it is, seemed to consist almost entirely of them trying to solve a case they were coerced into taking through lack of funds, not out of any sense of justice or personal accomplishment then, but merely in order that they could instead go back to living the hedonistic lifestyles they had become accustomed to at the expense of others.

Alex & Katija: High and Mighty
Independently wealthy. Free and happy. Highly inaccurate and somewhat irrelevant prose, yes yes I know — what are you, my mother? But when has truth, that dull ignoramus, ever been able to measure up to a well-crafted lie? Most of his work is created solely to make people laugh, or at the very least smile.
He tries to be offensive as often as humanly possible.

When not — then he is most likely being semi-blackmailed by his publisher, who has a hell of a job in keeping us all out of jail and preventing the premises of New Libri Press from being torched. Contrary to his wishes he currently resides in the depressing little freeze box of Stockholm, Sweden. He was born on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain in , but was imported to the frigid shores of Sweden at the tender age of two.
