Some days, being a writer means intensive research. You have to sample all your sources.
A radio report on Belgrade
Science fiction is often perceived by readers and would-be writers to always involve loads of hard science, complicated astronomical or biological theory with attending formulae worked out in the text , and brainy scientists who save the day because of their intimate understanding of quantum mechanics. Okay, science fiction is sometimes these things. Every week at Clarion West, I challenged myself by trying to write a different kind of story than I had the week before. I waffled. I had this rudimentary idea for a story, but I could see making it fantasy as easily as science fiction.
And so I did. Thank you Eileen and Nisi! The story fared relatively well in class, by the way. I got some great feedback from my classmates and instructor Ian McDonald.
About Martin Shapiro
So thanks to everyone who helped shepherd this story along. All of the stories in the collection are speculative tales set against the backdrop of the s: The Jazz Age, Prohibition, Decadence and Decay in Europe, etc. The final title and publication date are pending, but the TOC is up here. Major thanks are due to Erika Holt and Jaym Gates for choosing my story.
And even more good news: the February issue of Lightspeed is up.

To accomplish the mission, I know I need to do A, B, and C, no matter how difficult, risky or time-consuming those tasks might be. I know what it takes to succeed in this crazy business.
Writing a good movie, TV show, or novel is one of the toughest endeavors a person could undertake. When Script Magazine approached me to write some articles for them, I was more than happy to contribute to such a worthy publication.

You can literally learn something useful in every single article that will help your writing or at the very least provide insight into how the movie industry works. I love teaching and helping enthusiastic, young creators develop their craft and business acumen. Writing is a long process of trial and error. Writing is a muscle that needs to be exercised on a regular basis.
