My Rating 3. Nancy is lying on her death bed having lived a long, energetic life. She claims she has been dead before and she is looking forward to seeing Ryan again. The caregivers think perhaps she is hallucinating. Nancy smiles and then drifts into memories 75 years earlier.
A Romantic Ghost Story by Jason W. Chan
Nancy was a young woman born in Macedonia to a poor family. She clings to her guitar, Lucy, and sings whenever she can hoping to be discovered.

She sings a sad song she wrote herself. Nancy sets out with tremulous dreams but soon finds herself as a victim of sex trafficking. He believes in her and is willing to help her try to escape to follow her dreams. I liked the premise of the story and feel it had strong potential. The storytelling is interesting and there is lovely tenderness in the love story between ghost Nancy and Ryan. Sadly, the story is in desperate need of editing.
My reading attention was particularly disrupted by inconsistent sentence tenses. There were also some plot threads that were too unrealistic with dangers and resolutions not fully explained. This is a quick romance that could be enjoyed by readers who enjoy ghostly stories. Jan 25, Linda Hays-Gibbs rated it liked it. This is a ghost story with demons of a kind I've never known about.
I loved the sweetness of the love story but I didn't understand how the ghost could live and the live human had to die or was it the other way around. How did sex trafficking get into the ghost story and why didn't the angel's solution help? I just have so many unanswered questions. The problems I had might not be there for the other fellow and it may be that I like a different kind of tale. I know it was a sweet tale and I read it through to the end I gave it three stars for effort and originality. There were some words left out or in the wrong sequence too but I can never tell if that is an error or it happens when the book is loaded.
I wish the author good luck and would advise more attention to detail and don't credit the reader with knowing too much. We need the details to follow. Sincerely Linda Hays-Gibbs I read one of the author's other books My Christmas Angels and liked it.
The author contacted me and asked me to read this one and give an honest review. This short story is about a young spirit-girl who is about to marry a demon. She needs to find someone to free her so she can have a second chance at life. I do believe in the afterlife, but this story was a bit far-fetched for me. There were a few things in the story which were mentioned over and over and over.
I felt all of the repeating to I read one of the author's other books My Christmas Angels and liked it.

I felt all of the repeating took a lot away from the story. I also couldn't seem to connect with either Nancy or Ryan. I liked the first book of Jason's much better than this one. Sep 08, Shi'Asia rated it it was ok Shelves: ebook , free-ebook , romance , fantasy. The initial story was interesting, but the plot could have been a lot stronger. The instant love attraction was sweet, but maybe it should have more like, " hey, we're just friends," instead of, " You're the most beautiful thing ever! I need you! The descriptions needed more work, they were kind of plain and straight-forward.
Not a tad bit boring, but it wasn't terrible.

May 09, Brandi rated it really liked it. I loved this book and I swear as soon as I began reading it I could see Disney making a movie about it. What a cute story! Nancy is a young woman trying to make it to the USA to be a singer but when she believes a mysterious music manager she finds herself sex trafficked to North America. Then as they were crossing the ocean the boat sinks!
Now she has been enslaved to the ocean king until her body is found or she is saved. Feb 27, April May rated it really liked it. I liked this book because the storyline is different than most ghost stories. The main character is very likeable and the story keeps you drawn in to see how she gets saved.
I've never read anything by this author before and I think I will check out more titles from him because I enjoyed this book. I recommend it to anyone who likes a good romance or ghost story. It's not too long so it's a good read. Jul 29, Ashley rated it liked it Shelves: on-my-kindle. This was an enjoyable short read. I really don't have much else to say about this story. I'm glad it wasn't longer or it wouldn't have held my interest. It kind of read like a children's fairy tale.
The characters didn't have much depth but it was still a good story. Mar 16, Elisa Panjang rated it it was amazing Shelves: paranormal-romance. What a beautiful story! Well done to the author. It was very interesting I didnt expect it to be as good as it was it had spark it was a wonderful book and I would want to read again. Mar 24, Jazlynsingh rated it liked it. It had a few cliff hangers were the suspension was well built but it did fall flat in some areas. The plot is straightforward but it addresses themes of human existence and eternity in a way that many big-budget films don't even try. The ghost's simplistic form might seem odd or laughable at first. This was not the case with me. I found the ghost's emergence and entry into the film to be seamless and thoroughly convincing.
The narrative initially dissects local aspects of the plot, such as what type of relationship the man had with his wife and who he seemed to be as a person. Then it proceeds to become something much more ambitious- waxing philosophical on how we spend our time on Earth and what meaning, if any, we should hope to derive from it. The film's augmentation in scope can be risky for a small, unpretentious work, but in the end, it resonates quite well. As for the performances, everyone here is great but Rooney Mara is exceptionally understated here, not the least for the scene where she eats an entire pie in a moment of intense pain.
She is able to convey the grave reality of mourning without ever resorting to histrionics or conventional acting displays. She is low-key and completely effective here, as is Casey Affleck who portrays the detached husband. They worked with director Lowery in the lesser film "Ain't Them Bodies Saints", but here their collaboration reaches greater heights. As simple as this ghost appears, there is never a dearth of sympathy or doubt about its presence. The film's uses of long takes and pregnant silence create an unexpected degree of tension.
It deploys a soundtrack that is alternately mournful and quirky.

And for all the melancholy mood that pervades, there are discreet moments of humor, making for a bittersweet cinematic work of art. Strongly recommended.
